Tailored Living––6 Mudroom Design Ideas That Will Have You Ready For The Holidays!

Those fortunate enough to live in regions in which seasons are most distinct are probably used to the often-cumbersome rituals of removing snow, mud, dirt, and debris from homes’ entryways during the winter. But even in places where snow does not fall, the flurry of holiday activity can wreak havoc on even the most organized of living spaces.

In these six pieces of professional home organization advice, Tailored Living reveals a variety of mudroom design ideas to help keep your home organized, appear presentable to holiday guests, and most importantly, ensure your floors are kept dirt-free.

1. Homes that do not have a designated mudroom can accommodate one within the garage. When family members and houseguests remove icy or dirty boots, overcoats, and scarves in the garage rather than in the foyer, sediment falls to the garage floor rather than the floors inside a home. Leaving snow and mud in the garage prevents tile and wood from becoming slippery, while keeping the home welcoming and fit for entertainment. For optimal cleanliness and the option to mark floor space for cars, walking areas, and mudroom spaces, Tailored Living suggests having garage tiles installed.

2. Whether placed in the garage or in a more formal mudroom, an entryway bench is essential to mudroom design. In addition to helping guests with poor balance to remove shoes and serving as a seat for guests to easily remove jackets or snow clothes, a bench with storage improves your home organization by keeping extra household belongings neatly tucked away.

3. Installing a guest closet space within a shelving unit or equipping such a unit with hooks gives families the ability to air out dirty overcoats rather than toss them over a chair or into a pile. Keeping all coats and boots within the mudroom also keeps families organized so that leaving the house to start the day is always fluid and simple.

4. In addition to having a space to hang clothes, Tailored Living also recommends considering short-term storage for bags, backpacks, lunch bags, and winter accessories. Pullout drawers, shelves, hooks, and baskets are among the possible home organization solutions depending on the unique layout of a garage, entryway, or proper mudroom.

5. Shoe storage is another mudroom necessity. While some homes can easily accommodate a large shoe rack for the entryway, others may benefit from an entryway bench with lower shoe cubbies or a shoe rack built in to a custom shelving unit. Consider that those needing to regularly dry snow boots or rain boots will need taller shoe racks built to accommodate dripping.

6. Families that could use extra organization, especially during the excitement of the holidays, may benefit from installing bins in their entryway. This allows them to prepare for each week ahead by placing necessary items in designated places.

Pantry Design Tips to Keep You Organized This Holiday Season

With so many friends and family members visiting your home this holiday season, it’s important to keep it looking fresh while staying functional. With the kitchen being such a common hub of home entertainment, smart pantry design can be the difference between perfect organization and complete hosting mayhem.
Tailored Living presents these home improvement tips for your pantry to keep your food organized, your visitors satiated, and your holiday party sound.
1. If you plan on baking lots of apple pies or if all your friends expect your famous mashed potatoes, you can keep your non-refrigerated fruits and vegetables in custom pullout drawers within your
pantry. Tailored Living offers so many different designs so that your pantry design will match that of the rest of your home flawlessly.
2. Installing custom shelves with our professional organizers will result in pantry shelves perfectly fit to your family’s diet, your unique space, and the aesthetic you want for your home. When you’re facing large amounts of visitors or a robust baking mission, the last thing you want to worry about is a misplaced recipe book, bottle of olive oil, or boxed crust.
3. Prepare for kitchen mishaps by storing extra cleaning supplies in a basket within your pantry. Alternatively, keep in this basket your specialized cooking accessories, such as apple corers, cookie cutters, non-decorative nutcrackers, or egg slicers. A Tailored Living Home Organization Specialist is happy to recommend the right finish and material for your pantry.
4. Make sure you have a spice rack or spice drawer installed in your pantry to keep track of the ingredients you have on hand. Whichever you go with, your gingerbread cookies and turkey stuffing will surely benefit.
5. If your family likes to keep bulk items like chips, crackers, sodas, or beer in the home for casual or impromptu holiday hosting, consider installing rattan baskets, our home improvement essential. After you pick the color and materials, our professional organizers will take the measurements so that your pantry can be effortlessly organized in no time at all.
6. To keep conversation flowing and to accompany toasts, Tailored Living recommends storing wine and sparkling cider neatly within an integrated wine rack. Whether you’re receiving them as gifts or curating the evening drinks, this simple device will help you stay organized like a professional. They come in multiple shapes and forms, so visit our gallery to stir up preliminary design ideas.

15 Ways to Create More Space in Your Garage and Organize for the Holidays

It's almost holiday season again. Is your home prepared?

Consider these simple pieces of advice for making the most out of your garage organization and mudroom design this winter.

1. Use traditional or powder coated garage cabinets to keep soiled snow clothes and accessories out of the house, but away from dust and pests.

2. Store empty travel luggage and visitors’ bags neatly within your stainless steel garage cabinets to keep them in mint condition.

3. With so many extra house guests, you may have to store extra hot cocoa, soup broth, and apple cider in your garage cabinet.

4. Swap out your summer gridwall accessories for those that accommodate sleds, snowboarding accessories, wood chopping tools, and, of course, rock salt for your driveway.

5. Stay active in the winter by continuing to use your bike for leisure rides. Securing it to your gridwall rack or hoisting it off the ground saves floor space and keep your garage organization working efficiently.

6. Use your garage workbench to wrap holiday gifts in secrecy.

7. Take your holiday decorations down from your overhead garage storage space, and fill that area with pool toys and other summertime equipment you’ll happily rediscover next season.

8. Get the most out of your garage organization by using your garage shelves to hold items too large to keep inside the house.

9. Clean out your mudroom closet in between your garage and home in preparation for a flood of visiting family members and friends.

10. Position hangers and hooks in a way that is easy to reach within your entryway closet so no one is tempted to throw a coat over your sofa or mudroom bench.

11. Consider lining your mudroom with coat hooks if you can’t immediately invest in built-in cabinetry.

12. Make sure have a shoe rack so that all guests and family members can easily leave the house and return comfortably.

13. Equip your entryway with drawers that are easily accessible to store items or gifts that may easily be left behind.

14. Store belongings within an entryway bench so that your guests have the option of sitting to remove and put on shoes.

15. Including a mirror in your mudroom design helps keep everyone looking fresh as they do their holiday rounds and can make your home appear larger and more welcoming for the holidays.

How to Get Your Home Ready for Extra Guests During the Holiday Season

One of the greatest joys of the holiday season is reuniting with friends and family from around the country and even the world. As we prepare our priority destinations and plane reservations this October, it’s important to also prepare our own homes for accommodating loved ones.

If you’re short on space this holiday season, a custom Murphy Bed design from Tailored Living is the perfect solution. With its elegant, space-saving design, you can easily turn any room into a comfortable guest bedroom. Simply unfold the bed from its wall-mounted disguise, put on your favorite bedding and adorn it with pillows. Extremely easy to put together and fold away, but with a refined design that makes it look like a more permanent part of a home, you can choose whether you keep the bed open for a month or a mere evening of comfortable rest.

When the Murphy Bed is neatly folded away, it appears more as an armoire or sturdy dresser than as an open invitation to sleep over. Strategically designed with elegant hardwood, it looks to have two doors that would typically reveal shelves or clothes hanging space. Even the real pull-down handles appear as if they will open the closet’s double doors! The sides accommodate shelves for displaying artwork or storing books, but those spaces can double as storage room for your guest.

In some of our more complex wall bed designs, the shelf portion turns into a functional and spacious desk area. If you currently work from home or are in need of a designated homework space, it’s easy to turn your guest bedroom into a multi-purpose room with a Murphy Bed.

Tailored Living––“How to Fit Bikes in With Your Garage Organization”

Bikes are ideal for short-distance commutes because they promote eco-friendly living as well as a healthier body. They’re also cherished forms of weekend leisure for families.
With the right kind of garage organization skills and home improvement tools, you can keep all your beloved bikes within reach and in crisp condition, while keeping your garage presentable and, more importantly, functional.
Here are some of Tailored Living’s top bike storage systems.
Tailored Living’s durable gridwall rack is an excellent home improvement solution because it is so versatile. Simply by switching out different kinds of accessories used with them, you can change what you store on your garage wall by season or year. No matter how many kinds and sizes of bikes you and your family own, you can simply adjust the number and arrangement of bike hooks and gridwall bike racks you use. Extra space on gridwall racks can be used for storing helmets, sporting equipment, gardening tools, and more.
Like gridwall racks, bike hoists store your bike off the ground so you free up valuable floor space. But in addition to saving space, you protect your car from accidental scratches, and your bike from haphazard damage. Keeping bikes securely out of the way of moving vehicles is essential for extending their lifespan.
Our standing bike racks are intelligent garage organization solutions for families with one to two bikes. Using this device to stack bikes securely above one another, it can sit snugly in the corner of a garage. It is ideal if you’re renting a home or apartment and can’t install more robust wall or ceiling systems, or for those seeking an easy way to keep bikes safe and orderly.
Request a free in-home consultation with a Tailored Living home organization specialist to learn more about the various kinds of bike storage solutions we offer, as well as to see what other kinds of home improvement tactics could help tidy up your garage.
