Now that you’ve got your dream garage all organized with garage storage cabinets, overhead storage, wall hanging organization systems, and a new PremierOne® epoxy garage floor, you’ll want that floor to stay clean and impressive. There is great satisfaction in having a garage you can be proud of, and a clean garage floor is a thing of beauty! There is a wrong way and a right way to safely clean epoxy flooring, so here is the best way to clean and preserve any of the five epoxy floor coating styles from Tailored Living®.
Regular maintenance will protect the surface and keep your epoxy floor in beautiful condition
Each style of our epoxy garage floor coatings is industry-tough and delivers exceptional strength and durability you can count on. Seamless, non-porous finishes resist chipping, peeling, fading or stains, and they can withstand heat and cold and wet and dry weather conditions. Especially important for in the garage, our floors also resist chemicals commonly found in garages, like gasoline, auto fluids and paint thinner. To keep your epoxy garage floor in tip-top shape, follow best-practice care procedures as outlined below:
Spills: Wipe up spills as soon as discovered to prevent dulling or discoloration of your floor’s finish. Remove as much of the chemical spill as possible with a dry rag, then spot-clean the area with soapy water and rinse with a clean, wet rag.
Washing: Sweep up any loose dirt and debris with a broom or Shop-Vac. Cover the two infrared door sensors at the front of the garage with sandwich baggies to protect them from getting wet. Mix water with a small amount of mild dish soap or a degreaser like Simple Green in a mop bucket. Use caution when mopping since the floor may be slippery. If you prefer to use a power washer, use the 45-degree angle tip, and keep the spray nozzle a minimum of 18 inches off the floor to avoid damaging the floor coating.
A rolling bucket and a heavy-duty cotton mop makes cleaning the floor quick and easy
Rinsing: Use a hose and nozzle to rinse the floor, being careful when spraying under cabinets or shelves to limit splashing. Garage floors have a natural slope so start at the highest point, usually the back of the garage, and hose toward the driveway. Hose the back and sides of the floor into the middle, and then out the door.
Drying: An 18-to-24-inch floor squeegee is the ideal tool for getting your floor dried quickly. Starting from the back of the garage, follow the rinsing pattern and pull the water from the back and sides into the middle and then out toward the driveway. You can also use a clean street broom to sweep the water out of the garage. Remove the plastic baggies from the garage door sensors and you’re done!
The right tools will enable you to effortlessly keep your garage floor clean all year long
Epoxy floor coatings are more than just a “pretty face”
Each of the PremierOne floor coatings protects and beautifies with a permanent, glossy shine that is twice as hard as most other epoxy finishes. With five different styles and over 40 colors to choose from, you’ll be able to satisfy your design sensibilities for your perfect garage floor. Working with your local Tailored Living designer, you can design the style of flooring that best suits your lifestyle and budget:
PremierOne® Decorative Texture has 18 standard decorative chip patterns in large (1/4”) or small (1/8”) chips or you can also custom blend colors for a totally unique floor. The decorative chips give a slightly textured surface to the floor.
PremierOne® Solids gives a seamless, solid-color floor coating in six standard neutral colors that easily coordinate with any home color scheme or our custom garage storage cabinets.
PremierOne® Stone looks like high-end granite, creating a truly elegant garage floor. The 1/4” chips imitate real stone in six standard colors or opt for a trend-forward, custom color blend that is yours alone.
PremierOne® Elements brings a natural crystalline luster to the floor with 1/4” genuine shaved rock chips containing mica. Available in six standard metallic colors, this floor gives the illusion of depth, sheen, and texture of natural stone.
PremierOne® Stratus design is created as it’s applied, so no two floors are ever alike. Swirling together two or more colors of marbleized epoxy gives the look of molten metal in a three-dimensional abstract pattern. Available in six standard colors, or you can combine colors for a more dramatic result.
